Abdulkharim Muhumuza

Mr. Muhumuza Abdulkharim is a distinguished public health specialist and a seasoned programming and partnerships enthusiast. With a decade of experience in programming and project management, he has established himself as a dedicated health and human rights advocate. His educational background includes a Master’s Degree in Public Health and a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management. Additionally, he holds certificates in Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, HIV, TB, and Human Rights Advocacy and Training in Southern and East Africa, as well as Project Management in Global Health from the University of Washington.
Mr. Muhumuza has a wealth of experience working with Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, Health Development Partners, and regional bodies such as the Africa CDC and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). He has also engaged with the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism under the UN, professional bodies, associations, and civil society organizations. His expertise includes health policy advocacy, where he influences decision-making for progressive policies and legislations through policy dialogues, shadow reporting, and participation in technical working committees.
In addition to his advocacy work, Mr. Muhumuza excels in managing and fostering strategic partnerships with various stakeholders to enhance health outcomes. He has led and contributed to numerous training sessions, research processes, resource mobilisation and consultancies, demonstrating his leadership and training capabilities. Furthermore, he has played a significant role in organizational development, enhancing the capacities of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in programming and health policy advocacy.
Currently, Mr. Muhumuza serves as the Head of Partnerships and Communications at Afya na Haki and the Board Chairperson for Local Sustainable Communities Organisation. His commitment to public health and human rights is evident in his extensive work and collaborations. He continues to be a pivotal figure in generating and utilizing evidence to inform and influence decision-making for progressive health policies and legislations. Additionally, he is deeply involved in advocating for climate change action and environmental rights, ensuring that these critical issues are addressed in his work.
Mr. Muhumuza’s qualifications and experience align perfectly with Green Deal’s commitment to climate action and providing Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EHRDs) with the necessary support and environment to undertake their crucial work.
